Hideaway 64 Owner to Seek Legal Action After County Denies Liquor License
The Kane County Liquor Commission on Wednesday denied a request for a liquor license at the Al Capone's Hideaway and Steakhouse property.
ST. CHARLES, IL - The Kane County Liquor Commission on Wednesday denied a liquor license for a proposed family-friendly bar and grill at the former Al Capone’s Hideaway and Steakhouse property in St. Charles, the Kane County Chronicle reports.
Residents in the area attended the meeting at Valley View Baptist Church to voice their opposition and also their concerns over allowing alcohol at a business in a neighborhood with narrow, dark and steep roads; no sidewalks or roadside shoulders; and close to a school and popular park, according to the article.

Nicholas Casiello and his family purchased the former Al Capone Hideaway, at 35w337 Riverside Drive in St. Charles Township, last year and Casiello says his family now plans to hire a lawyer and seek legal action following the county’s vote Wednesday, according to media reports.
Those supporting the opening of Hideaway 64 said Wednesday the business would provide jobs and a source of entertainment, the Daily Herald reports. Fox River and Countryside Fire/Rescue District Capt. Kevin Tjelle said the building in its current vacant state is considered one of the biggest fire risks for the surrounding communities since old, empty restaurants can often cause fire problems.

If it were open and up to code, Tjelle said, it would “take away some of the danger.”
In September, the county board approved changing the zoning for the proposed Hideaway 64 from farming to business, according to the Elgin Courier-News. The former Al Capone Hideaway, a popular steakhouse that was once a supposed hideout for Al Capone in the 1920s, closed in 2012, according to the Courier-News.
