Kane County Eyes Property Tax Hike
The Kane County Board is looking at increasing property taxes as a way to deal with an anticipated $16.3 million deficit in the 2023 budget.
KANE COUNTY, IL — The Kane County Board is eyeing a property tax increase as a way to address a $16.3 million deficit in its 2023 budget.
The property tax hike could land at an increase of somewhere between $7.47 and $33.55 and is meant to address the deficit, which is spurred by increases in salaries and the cost for benefits for county employees, an increase in the cost of goods and services and money an anticipated $3 million that will be spent to mandate justice reform stemming from the SAFE-T Act, according to the Daily Herald.
The property tax increase will be voted on as part of the 2023 budget, and the Kane County Board has until Nov. 29 to enact that budget.
