Kane County to Host Electronic Recycling, Document Shred Saturday

The event will run from 8 a.m. to noon on June 8 at the Kane County Branch Court office.

From the City of Geneva: Kane County is hosting a recycling event for electronics and books from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, June 8 at the Kane County Branch Court office, 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles. County residents also will be able to shred documents for free at the event.

Electronics

Electronics collection will include computers, laptops, stereos, DVD players, printers, keyboards, mice, phones, electronic games, holiday light strings and more, all of which can be recycled at no charge.Televisions (of any size, and any age) and computer monitors will be collected for a fee. The cost of recycling television sets and computer monitors, measured diagonally, is $25 for screens under 21 inches and $35 for screens 21 inches and over. Participants can pay onsite with cash or credit card.A complete list of accepted items can be found on the County's website. Kane County also has two electronics recycling drop-off locations that are open weekdays with the exception of holidays.

Books

Books of any age or condition - both hardcover and paperback - are free to drop off. People also can bring pre-shredded documents to the book recycling area for recycling; contents should be in a paper bag, stapled or taped shut.

Documents

A maximum of four boxes of confidential documents may be shredded for free onsite. The service is available for county residents, not local businesses. Additional guidelines can be found on the County's website.

The Kane County will be hosting its annual recycling extravaganza Saturday, July 13.Kane County does not accept hazardous waste or large household appliances such as washers and refrigerators.
