Kane County Republican Leaders To Hand Out Care Packages Saturday

Local elected officials are set to distribute packages using a drive-thru, no-contact system at two locations in St. Charles and Elgin.

KANE COUNTY, IL — State Sen. Jim Oberweis is set to join his fellow Republican officials from Kane County Saturday to distribute community care packages to residents who need help during the coronavirus pandemic. The local leaders will hand out the care packages using a drive-thru, no-contact system at two locations in St. Charles and Elgin, according to a news release.

Residents can pick up packages from 10 a.m. to noon at Elgin’s New Life Covenant Church, 2250 W. Highland Ave. A second distribution event is scheduled to run from 2-4 p.m. at Oberweis’ campaign headquarters in St. Charles, located at 1700 Lincoln Highway, Suite J. Oberweis is running to unseat U.S. Rep. Lauren Underwood (D-Naperville) in November’s general election.

Oberweis will be joined by Kane County Treasurer David Rickert, Auditor Terry Hunt, State Sen. Don DeWitte, State Reps. Dan Ugaste and Keith Wheeler, and other local elected officials and candidates, according to the release. The distribution events are being sponsored by Oberweis Dairy and Woodman’s Grocery, both in North Aurora, and Caputo’s Market and Deli in South Elgin.

Care packages will include food items, protective masks, hand sanitizer, toilet paper and milk from the Oberweis Dairy, the release states. Republican leaders said they will hand out at least 500 bags at each location.

After participating in a similar distribution event in Chicago, Oberweis wanted to bring it to Kane County to help his constituents, the release states.

“I saw how well-received it was, and how so many people participated, that I thought, ‘Let's help people here too,’” Oberweis said. “I started making some phone calls, and I'm really excited to be able to help provide something positive during these tough times.”

Elected officials, candidates and volunteers will place care packages in the trunk or back seat of vehicles to ensure everyone’s safety, the release states.
