Kane County’s Great Orb Hunt Returns With 150 Hidden Treasures

KANE COUNTY, IL — Glass and ceramic art is going into hiding this September as the Great Orb Hunt 2026 returns to Kane County forest preserves.

From Sept. 10 through Sept. 30, hunters can search for 150 handcrafted orbs created by artists at Fine Line Creative Arts Center, with finders allowed to keep one orb each, according to the Forest Preserve District of Kane County.

The orbs will be hidden in small batches throughout the event at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve north of Dean Street, Burnidge Forest Preserve and along the Prairie Path at Fine Line Creative Arts Center. Organizers say the orbs will generally be hidden 1 to 5 feet off designated trails and will not be placed in waterways or maintained areas.

No announcement will be made when new orbs are hidden, but organizers will post on social media when an orb is found and registered.

Hunters who find an orb are asked to register it online so organizers can track how many remain and share their finds using.
