Local Author Honors Late Son With Children's Book Series
Ben's Adventures children's books, a young brother who loves to dream, developed out of a desire to share Benjamin with others.
St Charles mom and new children's book author Elizabeth Gerlach has one goal - to honor her late son Benjamin. Benjamin was a preschooler in St Charles when he passed away in spring 2016. He had cerebral palsy and was in the Early Childhood program.
The first Ben's Adventures book called Day at the Beach published in May 2018. The second in the series called Circus Day is now available for preorder on Kickstarter. The series is about a young brother who uses a wheelchair - he loves life, loves his friends and dreams great adventures. It's an inspiring story about inclusion and friendship and shows that ALL kids can play & dream.
The Gerlachs also established the Ben Smiles Memorial Foundation, an effort to gift adapted toys and devices to children with motor limitations.
