Man Arrested For Entering Parked Cars, Stealing Items

ST. CHARLES, IL — A 22-year-old man accused of stealing items from parked cars in St. Charles was arrested early Monday, authorities said.

The St. Charles Police Department was called to the 100 block of Walnut Drive at about 5:30 a.m. Monday for a report of a suspicious person seen entering parked vehicles in the area, according to a news release from the St. Charles Police Department.

Officers responded to the area and learned a man, who was later identified as Charley Soto, 22, was going through a vehicle. At the time, he was wearing gloves, carrying a flashlight and had a bag containing various items, according to a news release.

Police learned other vehicles in the area had been rummaged through and items were missing from those vehicles as well, according to authorities. Police say Soto stole several credit cards.

He also had two knives with blades that were longer than three inches on him and ammunition. He also had a substance that was believed to be a controlled substance, according to police.

Soto was arrested and taken to the St. Charles Police Department where he was charged with burglary without causing damage, unlawful possession of a credit or debit card, possession of a controlled substance, unlawful use or possession of weapons or ammunition by a convicted fleon and armed violence.

Soto was later transported to the Kane County Jail to await a bond hearing.
