Man Not Guilty By Insanity In Father’s 2017 Stabbing Death

The St. Charles Township man could be held at a mental health facility for up to 60 years.

KANE COUNTY, IL — A Kane County judge has ruled that a 24-year-old St. Charles Township man was legally insane when he killed his father in August 2017, prosecutors said. John W. Shenko, of the 7N block of Longridge Road in St. Charles Township, was found not guilty Thursday by reason of insanity of the charge of first-degree murder in the death of 60-year-old Kevin Shenko, according to a state’s attorney’s office news release. He stabbed father Kevin Shenko multiple times, leaving more than 100 wounds on his body and causing his death on Aug. 13, 2017, authorities said.

When police arrived at the scene, they found John Shenko on top of his father shouting, “die, die, die!” He claimed he was God and that he was killing Satan, according to the news release.

Kevin Shenko’s body had more than 100 wounds, authorities said.
