Maple Sugaring Days Returns In March

The family friendly event will be held March 4 and 5 at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve.

ST. CHARLES, IL — The Kane County Forest Preserve District will host its Maple Sugaring Days on March 4 and 5 at Creek Bend Nature Center at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles.

The event will run from 12 to 3 p.m. both days. Attendees will get to learn how to tap a maple tree and can try drilling and setting a tap. Naturalists will simmer sap over an open fire and attendees can watch as it thickens to syrup, according to a news release from the forest preserve district.
Naturalists will also lead a hike where attendees can learn how to distinguish maples from other species of hardwood trees.

During the event, sweet treats will be available at the Maple Café, including ice cream - which will be donated by Culver's of St. Charles — drizzled with syrup on top. Items for purchase include: maple donuts, cookies, hot chocolate and coffee. Pure, local syrup will be available for purchase as well.
Registration is not required for this family-friendly program at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve, which is located at 37W700 Dean St., St. Charles, and admission is free.
