Woman Charged In St. Charles Fatal Crash Ordered To Remain Detained

A 27-year-old man died in the collision and a 29-year-old West Chicago woman faces charges.

ST. CHARLES, IL — A woman has been charged after a motorcycle crash that left a 27-year-old man dead late Wednesday night in St. Charles.

Morgan Mroz, 29, of West Chicago, has been ordered to remain behind bars as court proceedings move forward in the case. She is charged with aggravated DUI and reckless homicide for allegations she caused the crash that killed Ryan Hresil, of Plato Center, the Daily Herald is reporting.

Police and fire crews responded around 10:52 p.m. on Wednesday to the intersection of Country Club Road and North 5th Avenue for a reported crash involving a motorcycle and an SUV, according to the St. Charles Police Department.

Witnesses told dispatchers the driver of the SUV may have fled the scene following the crash, according to a news release.

When officers and firefighters arrived, they found the injured motorcyclist and immediately began providing medical aid. The man, who was later identified as Hresil, was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital, where he was later pronounced dead, according to police.

Officers soon located the SUV and its driver nearby and identified the driver as Mroz.

During a hearing Monday, Katy Flannagain, assistant attorney for the Kane County State's Attorney's Office, said Mroz refused to take a breath test at the scene but a blood test done several hours later showed her blood alcohol content to be .13, according to the Daily Herald.

The legal limit is .08.

Mroz was transported to the Kane County Jail pending a conditions and detention hearing. Police are asking anyone with additional information about the crash to contact the St. Charles Police Department at 630-377-4435.
