Night Hike Planned At LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve
You can learn more about why the night sky is so important for wildlife, people during the Sept. 13 event.
ST. CHARLES, IL — The Kane County Forest Preserve, St. Charles Park District and Geneva Park District will host a night hike at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve on Sept. 13.
The event, which is part of the "learn from the experts" program, will run from 7 to 8:30 p.m. no Sept. 13 at the Creek Bend Nature Center at the local forest preserve, which is located at 37W700 Dean St. in St. Charles. During the event, International Dark-Sky Association delegate Adam Kreuzer and Kane County Forest Preserve District environmental education manager Barb McKittrick will explain what makes dark skies so important to wildlife and people.
They will also provide practical tips on how to fight light pollution and help preserve dark skies. Following the talk, the group will head out to experience the joys of a trail hike after dark, peeking into the nighttime lives of local animals and plants while learning about nocturnal ecology, according to a post on the Kane County Forest Preserve District Facebook page.
