No One Injured in Robbery at Jared Jewelers in St. Charles

Suspects smashed jewelry cases with hammers and got away with jewelry from the store Saturday night.

No one was injured when three men used hammers to smash display cases at Jared Jewelers on East Main Street in St. Charles Saturday night before stealing jewelry and fleeing the store, police said.

Employees at the store told police the three suspects, all black males in dark-colored hooded sweatshirts, entered Jared Jewelers at 8:45 p.m. A fourth suspect stayed at the front door.

After stealing the jewelry, the offenders fled the area through the front door. They proceeded northbound before possibly going to the rear of the store.

They may have gotten away in a light blue-colored older model Dodge Caravan that was parked behind the east side of the business that was stolen from Batavia earlier in the night, according to a St. Charles Police Department press release. The driver’s side window was broken out when it was stolen and the van’s license plate is Illinois 878 7642.

Five employees and two customers were inside the store at the time of the robbery and were not harmed, police said.

Police are working with Jared Jewelers to determine what was taken and review any possible video of the robbery, according to the news release. Investigators are also working with other departments who are investigating similar robberies in their towns to determine if they are related.

Jared will remain closed while evidence technicians process the scene.
