OCSA Tees Up To Save Lives With Chicago Bears Football Great Bob Parsons For Its Fourth Annual Golf Tournament

The Ovarian Cancer Symptom Awareness organization (OCSA) will host its 4th annual Golf Tournament and Dinner on Monday, July 18th at Boulder Ridge Country Club in Lake in the Hills, Illinois. The event benefits the ongoing awareness campaign surrounding the silent symptoms of the disease. Event co-chairs, Carolyn Ascher, owner of Amlings Interior Landscape and Kurt Klepitsch, DVM and owner of Gateway Veterinary Clinic, lead the charity golf tournament that raises funding for the unique Veterinary Outreach Program (VOP).
The VOP embraces a One Health philosophy and partners with professionals in the medical and veterinary community including the Illinois Veterinary Medical Association; Illinois Department of Public Health; the One Health Commission and the American Veterinary Medical Association. The program aims to inform urban and rural veterinarians, veterinary clinicians, and veterinary discipline students about ovarian cancer and its silent symptoms.
The fun-filled July golf event emceed by 95.9 The River’s Scott Mackay begins with lunch prior to the shot gun start at 12 noon. Golfing foursomes will enjoy the rare opportunity to play with Chicago Bears football great, Bob Parsons, and all golfers will have the chance to win a pair of Air Canada flights in a raffle with tickets for sale at each hole. A post-game dinner will feature a live and silent auction. Items up for auction include a private cooking class for six hosted by iconic Chicago Chef and owner of Cyrano’s Café & Wine Bar, Didier Durand, at his private residence; custom artwork by Artbeat Live; an autographed baseball by Chicago Cubs’ Trevor Cahill, a memorabilia-filled Blackhawks fan basket, a Yosemite/Mariposa County package for two that includes a three night stay at Tenaya Lodge and a Yosemite National Park entrance pass; a Chicago weekend package for two that includes a two night stay at the Hilton Chicago as well as gift baskets for budding youth chefs and much more.

When ovarian cancer is diagnosed and treated in its earliest stages, the survival rate is over 90%. According to the American Veterinary Medical Association, over 80 percent of veterinarians graduating today are female increasing the possibility of a personal connection to the disease and a viable tie to the purpose of the Veterinary Outreach Program (VOP).
Statistics show that ovarian cancer is diagnosed in one of every 55 women and is the number one gynecologic cancer killer. More than 22,000 women are diagnosed with this cancer every year and 15,000 die. The VOP exponentially spreads awareness surrounding the silent symptoms of this disease through the conversations pet owners have with their trusted veterinarians, important public health protectors.
