Plans Move Forward for New Apartments in St. Charles

A developer is planning to build 250 new apartments on the west side of St. Charles.

ST. CHARLES, IL - A developer is moving forward with plans to build 250 apartments on the west side of St. Charles following a vote Monday by St. Charles aldermen, the Daily Herald reports. The proposed Prairie Winds Development would include 25 buildings on Bricher Road between the Kane County Judicial Center and the Lowe's and rents would range from $1,350 to $2,200 per month.

During Monday's meeting, aldermen rejected objections by park district officials. The Daily Herald reports:

The park district stood to receive a $1.27 million check from the developer in lieu of actual park space on the property. But when the developers balked at that price tag, aldermen agreed to knock $481,000 off the total.

Big Rock-based Executive Capital Corp., which owns a number of XSport gyms in the area, is planning to build a pool and clubhouse on the premises, according to the Daily Herald.

The $50 million development will also include 50 one-bedroom apartments, 150 two-bedroom units, 50 three-bedroom units, 110 parking spaces, 300 garage spaces and a dog park, the Kane County Chronicle reports. Before construction can start, approval is needed from the city of Geneva for a right-of-way since an entrance to Prairie Winds from Bricher Road is in Geneva's jurisdiction.
