Police Arrest Man Following Possible Hostage Situation in Elgin

Police received reports the man was attempting to shut down water equipment at the Fox River water reclamation district building in Elgin.

Police have arrested a man following a possible hostage situation Wednesday at the Fox River water reclamation district building in Elgin, police said.

Police were called to the water reclamation district building, at 875 Dana Drive, at 11:50 a.m. after callers reported a possible hostage situation. Callers said the suspect was attempting to shut down the water equipment at the facility, according to a Elgin police.

Police located the suspect who was armed with a handgun near the building. Officers attempted to negotiate with the suspect and have him surrender.

The suspect refused and officers used “a less lethal ammunition round to incapacitate him,” according to police. He was taken into custody and transported to an area hospital.

An investigation into the incident is underway.
