The repairs will be made at the rail crossing, which is about ⅓-mile south of Hopps Road in the village of South Elgin. Defects in both rails within the Randall Road crossing require immediate repairs for the safety of the train traffic going across the crossing, according to the Kane County Division of Transportation press release.

“All agencies involved understand the significance of this road closure. Unfortunately, the urgency and nature of the repairs allows for few alternatives and very short notice to address this critical safety issue,”Carl Schoedel, P.E. Director of Transportation for the Kane County Division of Transportation, said in a news release.
Drivers should expect extraordinary traffic delays for the full duration of this work on all legs of the posted detour route and surrounding roadways. All motorists who are able to avoid the regional area entirely are encouraged to do so, Schoedel said.
Motorists who cannot avoid this area should add considerable time to their expected travel times, according to the news release.
