Postal Worker Buys $4 Million Winning Lottery Ticket in St. Charles

An Elgin man won the $4 million prize.

An Elgin man has won a $4 million lottery prize after purchasing a ticket from Lundeen’s Liquors in St. Charles.

Michael Stetar, 54, has been a letter carrier for the United States Postal Service for the past 17 years. He buys a lottery ticket weekly and won big after trying his luck on a new game.

He was on a break when he went into Lundeen’s Liquors, 610 East Main St. in St. Charles, to get a snack and saw the Golden Casino ticket.

“I scratched my ticket outside and then ran back into the store and had the clerk confirm that I really did win,” he said.

He plans to invest the windfall for retirement and has consulted a professional financial advisor.

“I’m also going to treat myself to a new truck,” he added.

Lundeen’s Liquors will receive a $40,000 bonus, 1 percent of the prize amount, for selling a winning ticket. Stetar chose to take his prize as a one-time payment of $2,400,000.
