Primrose Farm to Host Barn Dance Next Weekend

Enjoy a musical entertainment, dance lessons, a costume contest, pie-eating contest and more at the annual barn dance.

ST. CHARLES, IL - The fourth annual Barn Dance at Primrose Farm, 5N726 Crane Road in St. Charles, on May 20. Vargo’s Dance will be on hand starting at 6 p.m. to provide dance lessons and music will provided by Chicago area’s sublimely smooth Fat Babies, according to a news release from the St. Charles Park District.

In addition, those attending are encouraged to dress up in period appropriate clothes from the 1930s and 1940s and can choose to participate in a costume competition. This “People’s Choice” contest will reward creativity and authenticity in capturing the era through vintage clothes and accessories, according to the news release.

Guests at this year’s barn dance are encouraged to bring a home-made pie to compete for bragging rights in the pie-baking contest. During band breaks, pies will be judged based on appearance and taste. Winners will be announced during the final break of the evening, according to the news release.

Slow Smoke BBQ will be on site selling their traditional pulled pork sandwiches, a variety of hot dog specialties and all the country fixin’s you might desire.

Attendees can take a break from dancing by sitting on a hay bale next to a bonfire or take a tractor-drawn wagon rides around the farm fields. Twinkle lights and kerosene lanterns given the farmyard a festive glow and vases of fresh-cut flowers also add to the party atmosphere.

Several of Primrose Farm’s resident animals will be overlooking the fun as well. Most of the farm animals will be accessible for petting in the lots and pastures closest to the barn, according to the news release.

Advance tickets are $10 per person while those purchased at the door are $15 each. Food and beverages are additional.
