Pumpkin Roll, Smash Events Held Saturday in St. Charles

ST. CHARLES, IL — Whether you smash them or roll 'em down a hill, there will be a couple options for getting rid of your old jack-o-lanterns. The Great Pumpkin Bowl will be held from 1 to 3 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 2, at Pottawatomie Park, 8 North Avenue.

You can roll your old pumpkin down the big hill at the park and toward some giant bowling pins. The cost is $5 per person and the event, which is a fundraiser for the STC Underground Teen Center, is open to all ages.

Also on Saturday, the St. Charles Natural Resources Commission will host its annual pumpkin smash from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the public works building, 1405 S. 7th Avenue in St. Charles.

The Pumpkin Smash is part of an annual effort to divert pumpkins from landfills by providing residents an option to drop-off their jack-o-lanterns to be composted.

Pumpkins should be free of yarn or candles put pumpkins that have been painted on are fine.
