Expect Road Closures This Weekend For Fox Valley Marathon

Street closures will be in place starting on Saturday and continuing through Sunday afternoon.

ST. CHARLES, IL —Local residents should expect several area streets to be closed this Sunday during the Fox Valley Marathon, which will run through St. Charles.

Street closures will be in place starting on Saturday and continuing through Sunday afternoon. The marathon will begin in St. Charles on the Illinois Street Bridge and will continue south to Aurora before returning to the finish line back in St. Charles.

Here is a look at the roadways that will be affected by this weekend's marathon:

  • 1st Street between Illinois Street and Indiana Street will be closed beginning Saturday at 5 a.m. for set up.
  • Both the Prairie Street and Illinois Street bridges will be closed during the entire event on Sunday. Motorists are advised to use either the Main Street/Route 64 bridge or the Red Gate bridge.
  • The race begins at 7 a.m. Sunday and ultimately travels south on 1st Street to Geneva Road/Route31. Geneva Road will be closed briefly from 7 and 7:40 a.m. and traffic will be detoured to South 3rd Street.
  • As a reminder, the current detour is still in place on Riverside Avenue/Route 25 due to construction. Additional closures will take place as the runners return to St. Charles on the east side of the river. From 7 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. on Sunday, Riverside Avenue will be closed from Illinois Ave to South 6th Ave. Motorists are advised to use South 7th Avenue.

Police and Emergency Management personnel will be positioned at key locations to assist with traffic direction, and drivers are advised to expect delays when traveling throughout the city, according to a news release.

Police are reminding drivers to watch for runners, spectators, and emergency responders assisting with the event.
