SCMC's One Good Deed After Another
The St. Charles Mothers' Club lives by its motto: Philanthropy, Friendship and Fun.
The new calendar started in September for the St. Charles Mothers' Club. Since our first meeting, we have been going "full-steam ahead". October started off our Commuity Impact mission. We worked with the Blue Goose "MOMtober" committee and area businesses to let the other mothers in the community know how much they are appreciated. The month-long event concluded with a local mom being honored with the title of "Ms. MOMtober" at the Chicago Steel Hockey game. We also had a Charlotte's Web-themed scarescrow at Scarecrow Fest. Then two weeks later, we assisted with registration for the "Making Strides Against Breast Cancer" 5K Walk at East Side Park and provided volunteer supervision for the park district's "Friday Live" for one night.
In November, our giving season started. At the beginning of the month, a small group got together to make 13 fleece blankets that were donated to children's units in area hospitals via Project Linus, another non-profit organization. At our monthly meeting, we made 15 bagged lunches for Lazarus House, our downtown homeless/ emergency housing shelter. Throughout the month, we raised money to help fund our Holiday Food and Gift program. Through this program, twelve local families received grocery store gift cards at Thanksgiving and 39 children will be receiving gifts for the holiday season. The club also works with local Scout troups to provide filled stockings for the families as well.
Lastly, in the month of December we celebrated our 'Friendships' by having our annual holiday dinner and present swapping game. We also continued our tradition of a Cookie Exchange at one of the member's homes. And, yet, this is just a "taste" of what the club does and what is yet to come in 2017.
