Search For A Groundhog During Feb. 2 Hike

The Forest Preserve District of Kane County is offering the free hike at a St. Charles forest preserve on Groundhog's Day.

ST. CHARLES, IL -- Area residents can search for a real live groundhog during a special program on Groundhog's Day at LeRoy Oakes Forest Preserve in St. Charles. The sleepy critter is among a few native hibernators in the Kane County area. Those attending the hike on Saturday, Feb. 2, will look for groundhog tracks, talk about hibernation and learn about their role in ecology, according to a news release from the Forest Preserve District of Kane County Forest Preserve District.

And if attendees are lucky, they might just spot a groundhog looking at its shadow.

The hike will be from 10 to 11 a.m. at the forest preserve, which is located at 37W700 Dean Street in St. Charles.
