South Elgin Approves 1-Year Moratorium On Data Centers
The decision follows widespread opposition to a proposed data center along Kenyon Road that village trustees rejected in August.
SOUTH ELGIN, IL — The South Elgin Village Board unanimously approved a 12-month moratorium on data center construction on Oct. 5, giving village officials time to evaluate the potential impacts of data center developments.
The decision follows the board's unanimous rejection in August of a proposal by Dallas-based White Rose Partners to annex land along Kenyon Road for a data center. About 150 people attended the August meeting, while an online petition opposing the project brought in more than 9,475 signatures, according to the Courier-News.
Village Attorney Derke Price said trustees could extend the moratorium if additional time is needed, although courts generally discourage lengthy restrictions.
