St. Charles Among Best Small Cities In America: Study

A new study ranks smaller cities based on affordability and quality of life.

ST. CHARLES, IL — St. Charles is among the best small cities in America, according to a recent study by WalletHub. The rankings came from 33 factors of "livability" from school quality to housing costs and restaurants.

The findings ranked 1,268 cities with populations between 25,000 and 100,000 based on affordability, economic health, education and health, quality of life and safety, with St. Charles ranking in the 95th percentile.

St. Charles didn't top the lists in any specific category, but had consistently good marks across the board, ranking 133rd in affordability and 88th in education and health.

Lots of other Illinois towns in the immediate area made the list, including Algonquin in the 97th percentile, Lake in the Hills in the 94th percentile and Crystal Lake in the 91st percentile.

The 99th percentile represents the top 1 percent of small cities in America, according to WalletHub. The top-ranked city with the highest total score was Princeton, New Jersey, while Bessemer, Alabama, which calls itself "The Marvel City," ranked last. Read the full rankings here.
