St. Charles Community Encouraged To Recycle Holiday Lights

ST. CHARLES, IL — The City of St. Charles is encouraging community members to recycle holiday lights, starting in November. America in Bloom St. Charles, Elgin Recycling and the city of St. Charles have teamed up to offer a holiday lights recycling program to reduce the amount of lights that end up in landfills.

Beginning Nov. 1, St. Charles residents and businesses can drop off unwanted, working or non-working, holiday lights and electrical cords at convenient locations around St. Charles.

Drop-Off Locations

*If a facility is closed, do not leave items anywhere outside the building, and deposit items in the designated bins only, program organizers said.

Collection bins are inside the buildings listed below:

St. Charles Public Works, 1405 S. 7th Avenue, St. Charles:

• 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
• Deposit lights inside the street-level lobby. There is no drop off when the gates are closed.

Pottawatomie Community Center, 8 North Avenue, St. Charles:

• 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Friday
• 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday
• 5 p.m. Sunday

Hickory Knolls Discover Center, 3795 Campton Hills Road, St. Charles

• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday
• 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday
• noon to 4 p.m. Sunday

St. Charles History Museum, 215 E. Main St., St. Charles

• 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday though Saturday

Blue Goose Market, 300 S. 2nd St., St. Charles

• 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday though Sunday

Heinz Brothers Greenhouse Garden Center, 2010 E. Main St., St. Charles

• 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday
• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday
• 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday

Ace Hardware, 2650 E. Main St, St. Charles

• 7:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday
• 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday
• 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday

Elgin Recycling is providing the bins and will donate any net proceeds from recycling the items to the America in Bloom – St. Charles effort.
