St. Charles East Educator Is Kane Teacher of the Year
Tom Straiker named winner by the Kane County Regional Office of Education.
The Kane County Regional Office of Education has named St. Charles East High School Auto Tech teacher Tom Straiker the High School Teacher of the Year, St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 announced on its website.
The Kane County Regional Office of Education made the announcement at its annual awards banquet Friday, May 3, 2013. Straiker also serves as adviser for the St. Charles East Auto Club, and he volunteers as fifth-grade enrichment teacher in District 303 elementary schools.
Outside the classroom, Straiker also organizes several fundraisers for his students including “Labor for Lazarus House” in which his students volunteer their labor in making basic car repairs for donations to Lazarus House, the district said.
