St. Charles East To Present Les Miserables
The musical will be held April 27 to 28.

From Community Unit School District 303: St. Charles East High School Theater Students have learned the history of France in a unique way with a production of Les Misérables School Edition, an adaptation of the Tony Award-winning musical phenomenon. The students present the musical on April 27-28 at 7:00 p.m. and April 29 at 2:00 p.m.
Theater Director Teresa Bundy said, “We have all done something wrong in our lives. But we redeem ourselves by our actions. Will we continue to make poor choices like the Thenardiers or will be like Valjean who tries to play his good fortune forward by taking in Cosette after Fantine's death? I have asked the class to play it forward with acts of kindness. The other theme we are focusing on is social injustice. This musical has endured for 30 years because injustice still remains in the world.”
This epic story of Les Misérables recounts the struggle against adversity in 19th century France. Imprisoned for stealing a loaf of bread, petty thief Jean Valjean (Jack Wartmann) is released from his 19-year term and not only becomes an honest man, but the mayor of a prosperous town and a loving adoptive father – violating his parole in the process. The relentless Inspector Javert (Elijah Groth), who makes a decent life for Valjean impossible, consequently pursues him. Only years later, after Valjean proves his mettle during a bloody student uprising and saves the life of a young man (Clark Cheatham) hopelessly in love with Valjean’s adopted daughter (Ella Sobkowicz), does the ex-convict finally feel fully redeemed.
