St. Charles Heads Back to School Aug. 21

Aug. 21 is the first day of classes for the 2013-14 school year in Community Unit School District 303, and that means registration time for new students at the district’s 17 schools.

According to the district’s Registration page, all children who will attend a District 303  school must register at the school attended by other children in their area. And there are some things you will need to bring along when registering your child.

The student’s name and parent address, along with both a home and work phone number are givens. But you also will need an original birth certificate, according to the district. Photocopies will not be accepted.

Health Records

Your children’s health records also will be required — reports from physical and dental exams in the past year, as well as immunization records. There are state laws governing which vaccines are necessary and in which grades.

The district’s Nurse Health Services page outlines the health record requirements for everything from early childhood programs to elementary grades.

Be aware, too, that all children in grades 6-12 must provide proof they’ve had a dose of the DTaP booster, which protects against whooping cough (pertussis), tetanus and diphtheria. By the way, that proof must be provided before the school year begins.

Other Records

There are other records or information you may need to provide when registering your child. If you own your home, you might be asked to provide your property identification numbers, or PIN, from your property tax bill. You also can obtain that information at these websites for:

Other information or documentation you may be asked for includes your driver’s license, voter registration card (but only if the voter’s name and address are on it), a signed copy of your lease or rental agreement or rental receipt. The full list is on district’s Registration page.
