ST. CHARLES, ILLINOIS — Without community leaders, Saint Charles wouldn’t hum along nearly as smoothly as it does. We’d miss their contributions in big and small ways.

How do you know the community leader?

As the current board President of the River Corridor Foundation of St. Charles, she has chaired multiple initiatives, working in partnership with the St. Charles Park District, our Police and Fire Departments, and other non-profits including Kiwanis, The Conservation Foundation and St. Charles Chamber of Commerce. Each project advocates for the enhancement of the downtown riverfront as a destination that is accessible to all.

Why do you believe the community leader should be recognized or honored?

Laurel demonstrates continued leadership in improving the health of our river and shoreline, leading annual bulb planting events, riverfront cleanups and restoration, advocating for projects that improve biking and pedestrian paths, fun runs and more. In my opinion no one in the city has done more to create inclusivity, wellbeing and a sense of community, than Laurel.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the community hero?

Laurel walks the talk. Her ideas turn into actions that benefit residents and visitors alike.
