Erik C. Butler is charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child.
Erik C. Butler, of the 1100 block of Adams Avenue in St. Charles, is charged with two counts of predatory criminal sexual assault of a child, a class x felony, and one count of aggravated unlawful use of a weapon, a class 4 felony.
Butler is accused of assaulting the victim, who was under the age of 13 years old, over a three-month period, according to a St. Charles Police Department press release. The victim, who police said was known by the offender, reported the assaults to a family member who notified the police.
Butler turned himself into the St. Charles Police Department on Saturday night. When he was arrested, officers found a semi-auto handgun in his car in the passenger area as well as ammunition. Police said there was no indication the firearm was used during the assaults.
Butler had a valid FOID card but did not have a concealed carry permit. The investigation was conducted jointly with the Kane County Child Advocacy Center.
Butler was taken to the Kane County Jail and was expected in bond court Monday.
