St. Charles Issues Coronavirus State Of Emergency Declaration
St. Charles Mayor Ray Rogina was granted emergency authority to make financial and operational decisions amid the coronavirus outbreak.

ST. CHARLES, IL — The St. Charles City Council on Wednesday granted Mayor Ray Rogina emergency authority and declared an official local state of emergency for the city of St. Charles. This declaration primarily enables the city to receive potential federal and state disaster funding and allows the city flexibility to make decisions in order to maintain essential services during the new coronavirus outbreak, city officials said.

The emergency authority granted to Rogina will remain in effect until April 6, which is when the next city council meeting is scheduled for and can be reauthorized at that time if necessary.
The order will allow him to close city facilities to protect the health of city employees and the public amid the new coronavirus outbreak, according to the Kane County Chronicle. It also allows him to authorize purchases, as funds allow, on anything needed to assist with the needs and welfare of residents and during a local state of emergency.
