This St. Charles Museum Is Free On Museum Day 2022

Smithsonian Magazine's 18th annual Museum Day will be held Sept. 17. The event gives free access for one day to museums across the country.

ST. CHARLES, IL — From the space program to maritime artifacts to local history, gather your family and friends this weekend to learn something with free admission at the St. Charles History Museum as well as several others across the Chicago area.

Smithsonian Magazine’s 18th annual Museum Day will take place Sept. 17 at select museums across the U.S.

This year’s theme, “Experience America,” celebrates “the return to, and resurgence of, our country's diverse cultural experiences,” following closures due to the coronavirus pandemic, according to a news release.

The St. Charles History Museum, located at 215 E. Main St., is a former gas station turned museum. The history museum includes artifacts that showcase the history of St. Charles as well as Native American artifacts. The museum also has an extensive history library covering the Fox Valley as well, according to Smithsonian Magazine.

The museum is open from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. You can get tickets here.
