St. Charles Officials Consider Extending School Resource Officer Program

Police and District 303 leaders are reviewing a three-year extension that would keep officers in schools, according to media reports.

ST. CHARLES, IL — St. Charles officials are considering a three-year extension of the school resource officer program and a security camera access agreement between the police department and St. Charles Unit District 303.

The program places police officers at St. Charles North and East high schools as well as Thompson and Wredling middle schools. Under the proposal, police would continue to have limited access to school security cameras during emergencies, investigations or other specific circumstances, according to the Daily Herald.

City leaders expressed support for the extension during an April 6 committee meeting, though the agreement still requires final approval from the city council.
