St. Charles Residents Start Craft Soda Business

Frank Schiffner and his friend, Josh Carnell, have opened a production facility in Geneva and are selling their sodas at area businesses.

ST. CHARLES, IL — Craft breweries have been popping up across the Chicago area over the past decade, and now two St. Charles residents think craft soda deserves its time in the spotlight.

Frank Schiffner and his friend, Josh Carnell, first became interested in unique sodas during their days as students at St. Charles East High School—a passion that has grown over the years and led to the duo experimenting with flavors at home and then launching their company, Sunset Soda, in 2014, according to the Kane County Chronicle. Last year, Schiffner and Carnell bought a space in Geneva and started production of their first soda, Short Shorts, a horchata root beer.

Now they are working on their newest flavor, Poolside, which is a citrus soda with orange, grapefruit and hibiscus, Schiffner told the newspaper.
