St. Charles Could Switch Garbage Pickup Companies

After 13 years, Advanced Disposal could be replaced by Lakeshore as the contractor for garbage pick up in St. Charles.

ST. CHARLES, IL – St. Charles alderman on Tuesday voted in favor of switching the city's refuse contractor from Advanced Disposal to Lakeshore, a Chicago-area company, the Daily Herald reports. The government services committee also agreed to stick with its volume-based sticker program instead of switching to a toter option where residents could choose between a 35-, 65- or 95-garbage can. Under Advanced Disposal's contract, St. Charles residents can use their own 32-gallon cans or bags or rent larger toters for a monthly fee.

Residents must attach a sticker to the cans or bags during garbage pickup. Lakeshore has proposed to charge $2.60 per sticker, which is much lower than the $3.40 sticker price currently charged under the city's Advanced Disposal contract, according to the Daily Herald.

Tim Wilson, the city's environmental services manager, said Advanced Disposal offered to lower its sticker price to $2.95. Advanced Disposal has been the city's refuse contractor for 13 years, according to the article.
