State Budget Stalemate to Shut Down 2 Road Construction Projects in St. Charles
State budget woes means the Illinois Department of Transportation will cease its construction projects on June 30.

The Illinois Department of Transportation has issued a notice that they are shutting down their construction projects on June 30 due to a state budget stalemate.
There is no timeline as to when this suspension will be lifted. According to IDOT, without a budget, they are not able to incur additional spending.
This state road construction project shut down affects two projects in St. Charles:

- Red Gate Road Resurfacing: This project was scheduled to start this weeek, but now is on hold.
- IL Route 31 & Ferson Creek: IDOT launched this project earlier this year. In recent weeks, the roadway has been open to one lane in each direction and will remain this way for the remainder of the project. Work will be shut down by June 30.
“We are keeping close contact with representatives from IDOT to monitor any new developments regarding this situation,” said city of St. Charles Director of Public Works Peter Suhr. “We will provide updates anytime new information becomes available.”
