City Releases Video of Teens Damaging Park District Buildings, Equipment

Three teens have been charged with breaking into the buildings and causing extensive damage on Sunday.

ST. CHARLES, IL - Three local teens face criminal charges, police said, after they broke into two St. Charles park district buildings on Sunday and caused extensive damage.

Nicholas P. Zamecnik, 18, of 41W000 block of Forest Lane in Elburn; Kyle J. Wandle, 19, of 4N000 block E. Mary Drive in St. Charles; and Wiliam J. Donlevy, 18, of 4n000 block Chaffield Drive in St. Charles were all arrested on Monday after police said the criminal damage during the early morning hours of Sunday was captured on video surveillance, Dave Kintz, Deputy Chief for St. Charles, said in a news release.

Police were called to Otter Cove Water Park and the concession building at James O’ Breen Park on Sunday afternoon for reports of the burglaries. When they responded, they found extensive damage throughout the interior of the buildings, including broken doors and windows.

The teens are also accused of breaking computer monitors, printers, refrigerators in the concession area and destroyed the lighting detection system. They carved on the walls and a fire extinguisher was discharged, Kintz said.

Offices for the Campton United Soccer Club, Tri-City Soccer Association and Tri-City Football Association were also damaged. The criminal damage was recorded on video surveillance and police used this to identify the offenders.

Kintz said park district officials estimate about $32,000 in damage was caused but added “that is a very rough estimate.”

“The park district is still working on it and it is my understanding that their insurance adjuster will be out to assist,” he said.

All three were charged with Burglary and Felony Criminal Damage to Government Property. They were taken to the Kane County Jail where they were held for bond call.
