Think you know how many calories were in your last fast-food meal? Study indicates that you underestimated

Research indicates that fast-food diners are underestimating how many calories are in their meals. Luckily, it seems awareness helps these diners make healthier decisions.

In a study that was completed last year, they found that fast-food diners are underestimating just how many calories they are eating. To make this worse, the estimates were staggeringly lower than the actual calories present. When divided into groups by age, teenagers were among the worst, guessing that their meal contained as little as one third of the actual amount.

Another study completed last year noted that after legislation was passed that required fast-food (chain) restaurants in King County, Washington to include caloric information on the menu, customers reduced their average intake by 154.3 calories per meal. This indicates that education and awareness are a major factor in making healthier choices.
