Walk For Charity: The Annual St. Vincent de Paul Friends of the Poor Walk is September 24th
The event helps raise awareness for poverty in the western suburbs
The annual Friends of the Poor Walk will take place Saturday, September 24th, 2016 at the Fabyan Forest Preserve Bear Cage in Geneva.
Friends of the Poor Walk is a National Walk sponsored by the Society of St. Vincent de Paul. Known as a friend of the poor, Catholic priest St. Vincent de Paul dedicated his life to helping others in need. The walk coincides with the feast day of St. Vincent de Paul.
In 2015, the Friends of the Poor Walk attracted over 28,000 walkers and raised over $2.9 million from over 240 different locations across the United States. Here in our Southeast District of the Rockford Diocese in the 2015 walk, we had 120 walkers from 9 conferences and raised $10,000. All funds raised will be kept locally to provide help to people in need, regardless of race, religion, age, or creed.
