It’s a day of pomp and circumstance in St. Charles — after four years, students at St, Charles East High Schools will queue up at noon at the Sears Center in Hoffman Estates to accept a parchment that officially states they have completed high school.

Today will be a day of joy: Long lines, mortarboards and graduation gowns, pearls of wisdom (“Your future starts today” — but hasn’t it always?) from peers and parents. Then there will be the presentation of a parchment that has become a rite of adulthood as much as a symbol marking the final step in the transition to adulthood.

There will be cheers and tears, great joy, perhaps a little fear.

While many will head off to the Sears Center to watch this rite, St. Charles Patch offers those who cannot the opportunity to watch from the comfort of their homes or offices. Thanks to High School Cube, both commencement ceremonies will be streamed live over the Internet, and you may watch them here.

So soak in the day as your young graduates are offered congratulations, presented cards and gifts, join family meals and dig into congratulatory cakes.
