Woman Dead in Crash Near St. Charles
The 59-year-old St. Charles Township woman was pronounced dead at the scene Monday morning.

ST. CHARLES, IL -- A 59-year-old St. Charles Township woman is dead following a one-vehicle crash along Route 25, according to authorities. The Kane County Sheriff's Office was called to the crash at about 7:05 a.m. Monday, and the driver, who has been identified as Karen Crampton, was pronounced dead at the scene. A preliminary investigation shows the collision occurred when a Chevrolet Malibu headed north on Route 25 south of Hickory Lane in unincorporated St. Charles Township drove off the road, according to a news release from the Kane County Sheriff's Office.
Authorities said the vehicle then hit a tree on the east side of Route 25, according to the news release. It's unclear at this point why Crampton, of the 6N500 block of Salina Avenue in St. Charles Township, veered off the roadway, police said.
The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
