$15M Granted To Tinley Park Mental Health Center Cleanup

TINLEY PARK, IL – The state has allocated nearly $17 million in funds for projects and improvements around Tinley Park.

The largest project received $15 million in the form of a grant to support the Tinley Park Mental Health Center for costs associated with environmental cleanup.

All buildings on the long-vacant property at the northwest corner of 183rd and Harlem were found to be filled with asbestos and black mold, an Illinois Environmental Protection Agency inspection found last December. Various barrels of unlabeled contaminants were also found throughout the property.

Among the funds, $250,000 was allocated to Together We Cope for costs associated with infrastructure improvements to the Together We Cope facility.

As much as $250,000 was allocated in the form of a grant to Easterseals Academy Tinley Park for costs associated with infrastructure improvements regarding the roof at the school.

Other allocations include $250,000 for a grant to Tinley Park-Park District for the costs associated with 10 capital improvement projects, $200,000 in a grant to the Village for sewer infrastructure and improvement projects, and $100,000 in a grant to the Village for costs associated with surfacing 175th Street to to Ridgeland Avenue.

Other allocation include:

• $150,000 for Timber Drive signal renovations
• $60,000 for the reconstruction of a community theatre
• $50,000 to the South Suburbia Crisis Center for the renovation of a domestic violence shelter
• $25,000 to St. Coletta's of Illinois for infrastructure improvements to their Tinley Park campus
