TINLEY PARK, IL — An Indiana man faces charges after police said he fled the scene of a crash that left one injured last month.
Luis M. Galvan, 34, of Hammond, was charged Wednesday with leaving the scene of a personal injury crash, obstructing justice and several traffic violations after the March 20 crash at 167th and Ridgelance Avenue, police said Friday.
Police arrived at the intersection at 8:12 a.m. that day in response to a Ford Transit van that struck a Nissan Altima and then fled the scene. While the Tinley Park Fire Department worked to extricate the injured driver of the Nissan at the scene, police officers secured the area and began a traffic crash investigation.
Officers searched the surrounding area for the Ford and found it a short time later in the 16800 block of Riverside Drive. Police took videos and photos of the van for evidence.
After an extensive investigation, officers identified Galvan, as the offending driver. Police charged Galvan on May 6 and transported him to the Bridgeview Courthouse pending a bond hearing.
Tinley Park police said investigating officers' "quick, thorough response" was key in locating and arresting Galvan.
Police also thanked the Tinley Park Fire Department and Tinley Park dispatchers for their quick response and communication following the crash.
