A familiar face in the halls of Memorial School will soon be moving into the principal’s office. The District 146 Board of Education approved Julie Russell, current Math Interventionist, as the school’s new principal beginning July 1.
Russell has 30 years of experience in education, with the last 25 spent at Memorial. Along with her experience in math intervention, she has also been a classroom teacher and has served as acting principal at Memorial for many years.
“I am very excited to move into this new role at Memorial, a place I’ve called home for the past 25 years,” said Russell. “With an amazing team in place, I know we will enhance the positive culture that has been established at Memorial and continue to ensure all students, staff, and families feel valued, supported, and connected.”
Throughout her career, Russell has consistently provided essential support to students and staff at all grade levels. She has demonstrated a commitment to fostering student-centered learning environments, prioritizing high expectations, building strong relationships, and continuing student and staff growth.
“With her years of experience at Memorial, many as the acting principal, Mrs. Russell has a bit of a head-start on her new duties,” said Dr. Stawick, District 146 Superintendent. “She fits the desired principal profile developed by Memorial’s search team and we are delighted to have her as Principal. Memorial will continue to grow and succeed under her leadership.”
Mrs. Russell holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education, a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction, and a Master’s Degree in Education Administration.
She lives in Palos Park with her husband and enjoys traveling with her family (including her three grown children who live out of state), floating in her pool with a good book, watching sports, and puzzling.
