Summer has officially arrived at St. Coletta’s of Illinois with the return of a beloved tradition: the Summer Picnics hosted by All Saints Lutheran Church for participants in the organization’s Community Day Services program.

Twice a month throughout the summer, participants gather at the church to enjoy afternoons filled with food, fellowship and community connection. Thanks to the generosity of Pastor Don Borling and members of the All Saints congregation, each picnic features hamburgers, hot dogs, homemade side dishes and desserts lovingly prepared and served by volunteers.

“Welcome back,” Pastor Don told a group of 65 participants on June 16 – the first picnic of the summer. “It’s great to have you here.”

For many participants, the picnics are among the highlights of the season, providing opportunities to socialize, build friendships and enjoy a welcoming environment outside of their daily routines.

“We are incredibly grateful to Pastor Don and the congregation of All Saints Lutheran Church for their continued kindness and hospitality,” said Heather Benedick, CEO of St. Coletta’s of Illinois. “Their commitment to our participants goes far beyond providing a meal. They create meaningful experiences and lasting memories that our participants look forward to every year.”

The partnership between All Saints Lutheran Church and St. Coletta’s reflects a shared commitment to fostering inclusion, community engagement and belonging for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
