TINLEY PARK, IL — Hailstorm Brewing Company will once again become a destination for local art, handmade goods and craft beer this Sunday as the Flurry Artisan Market returns from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The free, family-friendly event brings together more than 35 local artists, makers and small businesses from across the Chicago suburbs, filling nearly every corner of the brewery with original artwork, handcrafted gifts, specialty foods and unique creations.
Unlike many craft fairs that feature large numbers of similar vendors, the Flurry Artisan Market is carefully curated to maximize variety. Visitors can browse artists throughout the parking lot, beer garden, taproom and brewery production area while still enjoying Hailstorm's full food and beverage offerings.
The event is organized by Alissa Harris of the Streetz Artz Alliance, which works with breweries throughout northern Illinois to create artisan markets that emphasize handmade products, original artwork and independently owned small businesses.
"One of the things we work hardest to accomplish is variety," Harris said. "Every artist brings something different, so patrons can spend hours exploring and continue discovering something new around every corner."
That variety is evident throughout Sunday's lineup.
Food lovers can stock their pantry with small-batch spice blends, barbecue rubs, hot sauces, hot honey and maple syrup from Beaver Rub Spice Company. Grandma Dan's Bakery will offer homemade cookies, cake mixes and vanilla, while Masterclass Savory Sweet Foods returns with roasted nuts, oversized cookies and its popular tequila cake. Fefe's Pickles and Peppers and KP's Candy Factory complete a diverse collection of locally made treats.
Several participating businesses also support charitable causes. Beaver Rub Spice Company and Masterclass Savory Sweet Foods donate to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, while veteran-owned DK Custom Woodwork supports Heart Haven Outreach and Restoration Ministries through its woodworking business.
Art lovers will find original illustrations, paintings and mixed-media work from artists including Alex Kujawa, Jason Michael West, Robin Monique Rios and Accents by Rosey. Kujawa's artwork is especially recognizable this year, as she also designed the promotional artwork and branding for the Flurry Artisan Market.
Readers and families can also meet local authors. Lourdes Suero Heiy will be bringing her whimsical fiction, while Daisy Brand Art offers bilingual coloring books and photography postcards that encourage creativity for children and adults alike.
Those searching for handcrafted jewelry will discover everything from bold beaded designs by D'Mood Kreationz to nature-inspired copper jewelry from Gratefully Dreaming. Artist Jen, owner of Gratefully Dreaming, incorporates real flowers, mushrooms, leaves and other natural elements into handcrafted copper electroformed jewelry, creating wearable pieces inspired by the outdoors.
Crochet artists will also have a strong presence throughout the market. Dillydally Land specializes in quirky, spooky and nostalgic plush creations inspired by horror, anime and pop culture, while Penguino Productions creates handcrafted amigurumi and purses. Cats, Crafts & Cooking rounds out the category with handmade coasters, crocheted cat beds and other original creations.
Visitors decorating their homes can browse handcrafted wooden décor from Crafted Laserworks, laser-cut shadow boxes from Crafty Creations and embroidered tote bags and home décor from Sew-Kerry Embroidered Creations. Jeanne Miller of L'inspiration du Soliel will also feature handcrafted crystal suncatchers, copper plant stakes and solar garden décor.
Self-care enthusiasts will find handmade soaps, body butters, scrubs and bath products from Self Made Body & Soul, alongside handcrafted candles and wax melts from Crow & Moon Enchantments and Wicked Fun Crafts.
Even pets are included in the shopping experience. Tonie's Treats will offer brewery grain dog treats, homemade peanut butter, dog-friendly ice cream and handmade pet accessories, while music lovers can browse vintage vinyl records from ROCZILLA Records.
The Flurry Artisan Market has become one of Hailstorm Brewing's longest-running artisan market series. While the branding has evolved over the years, the event has continued to focus on showcasing local artists and giving patrons an opportunity to shop directly from the people who design and create their products.
Visitors can pair their shopping with Hailstorm Brewing's rotating selection of craft beer, including the brewery's current limited-time Razzle Dazzle Shandy, a blend of American lager and raspberry lemonade available exclusively in the taproom while supplies last. The Scratch Kitchen will also be open throughout the event, allowing guests to enjoy lunch or dinner while exploring the market.
The Flurry Artisan Market takes place Sunday, July 26, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Hailstorm Brewing Company, 8060 186th Street in Tinley Park. Admission is free, parking is available on-site, and the event is open to all ages.
