TINLEY PARK, Ill. — Main Stage Improv is celebrating Halloween with an evening of comedy, costumes and the unexpected when "Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun! A Halloween Comedy Spooktacular" takes the stage Saturday, Oct. 31 at 8 p.m. at the Tinley Park Performing Arts Center, 16801 S. 80th Ave.
The two-hour, PG-13 production will be heavy on improvisation, with a little scripted sketch comedy mixed in. Much of the evening will feature fast-paced improv games in the style of Whose Line Is It Anyway?, with a Halloween twist. Audience suggestions will drive the action, meaning much of what happens on stage will be created on the spot. The cast will perform in costume, and the evening will also include an audience costume contest during intermission with prizes for first, second and third place.
"Halloween gives us permission to get a little weird, and that's exactly what we're doing with this show," said director Adam Woodworth. "The audience is going to have a lot of control over where the night takes us. We have a talented group of improvisers who are willing to follow those suggestions wherever they lead, which is where a lot of the fun comes from."
Woodworth said the production is designed as an improv comedy show first, with Halloween providing the playground.
"The costumes and Halloween theme give us a lot to work with, but the goal is pretty simple: we want people laughing," Woodworth said. "If you're looking for something different to do on Halloween night, come spend it with a group of people who enjoy bringing the comedy and inspiring the laughter."
The production features Brenden Cummings, Garrett Gray, Kris Reid, Raven Witchard, Katie Jandeska and Nikki Ramel, with Kevin Hickey serving as assistant director and Woodworth directing.
"Ghouls Just Wanna Have Fun! A Halloween Comedy Spooktacular" will be performed Saturday, October 31, from 8 to 10 p.m. at the Tinley Park Performing Arts Center, 16801 80th Avenue, Tinley Park. Tickets are $14, and seating is limited. Tickets and additional information are available through Main Stage Improv's event page. mainstageimprov.com
