Hillcrest High School's Key Club collected monetary donations and essential household supplies for ANEW Domestic Violence Shelter in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month this October.
Approximately 25 students participated in the monthlong effort, reaching out to family members, coaches, classmates and teachers for support. This year's collection included laundry detergent, paper towels, Fabuloso and bleach. Monetary donations also allowed the club to shop for additional supplies requested by the shelter.
The effort continues a partnership of approximately six years. Each September, the club contacts ANEW directly to identify its most urgent needs, tailoring the collection to ensure donations provide meaningful support. Items are then delivered in time for Domestic Violence Awareness Month.
Based in Homewood, ANEW serves the local community by providing free, caring and confidential services to individuals and families affected by domestic violence.
Through this coordinated effort, Key Club members supported their neighbors while learning about an important community resource available to students and families who may need help.
