Victor J. Andrew High School band is making a repeat visit to the quintessential statewide band festival - Illinois Super State Concert Band Festival, hosted by the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, on May 5-6.
Andrew High School is one of three schools in Tinley Park to be accepted to Super State; Tinley Park High School was chosen from Class 1A, as well as Central Middle School in the Middle School Class.
This prestigious event is challenging and extremely selective. Andrew High School is in Class 2a where only eight bands are chosen statewide.

Bands audition by sending in recordings of repertoire at the end of February. Bands are notified at the end of March as to their acceptance. The recordings must be of the highest quality in sound and performance in order to be selected. This year, VJA was fortunate to perform at the Illinois Music Education Conference in a featured performance and used those concert recordings as their submission for Super State.
This is VJA's fifth time attending Super State since their first appearance in 2015. Band director Mark Iwinski says, “I think students know how to work hard and are humble about their process. We treat these opportunities as something that is a privilege and an honor.”
