Congratulations to the Victor J. Andrew High School indoor percussion ensemble for their recent 5th place finish at the WGI championships in Ohio. The group advanced through three levels of competition to the finals and placed 5th overall with a score of 94.2, just three points behind the front runner.
WGI Percussion ensembles consist of the marching percussion (also called battery) and front ensemble (also called pit) sections of a marching band or drum corps. Indoor percussion marries elements of music performance, marching, and theater. The activity is often referred to as percussion theater.
There are three scholastic levels to WGI competitions, allowing ensembles to compete and be compared with other groups at a similar skill level. Andrew sits in the Scholastic Open (intermediate) Class ensemble, along with 42 other schools from around the country. The top 24 are taken in semi-finals and then the top 15 in finals.
